Ivan Kiwuwa - A prodigious talent Ivan performed works by Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn

Extract of review from the Oxford Mail by Nicola Lisle
"...From the moment he stepped on to the platform, and noticeably prepared himself mentally before sinking his fingers on to the keys, it was clear we were about to witness something very special; the public unveiling of a new, phenomenal talent. Schubert's Impromptus Nos. 1 and 2 from Opus 90 were a perfect taster, the first dramatic and exciting, the second restless and full of rhythmic gymnastics... ...Then came a radiant account of Mendelssohn's Sonata in E major, its lyrical quality explored with eloquence and assurance. Two more Schubert Impromptus opened the second half, and the evening was brought to a close with Beethoven's Sonata opus 110 in A flat major, its contrasting moods allowing Kiwuwa to give full rein to his musical energy and virtuosity. This was an exhilarating and enthralling programme, given by a brilliant but seemingly unassuming young man, who is clearly destined for international stardom... ...Absolutely wonderful."

Bing Bing Li
Court Theatre, Tring
September 21st

Born in Beijing 1987 Bing Bing Li has already proved to be one of the most promising new talents of her generation. As a child prodigy she acheived grade eight piano when she was just eight and has been winning first prizes at competitions ever since.  Crowned "Star of the Future" when eight years old by the government of her home country.

"She held the relatively large audience spellbound by the quality of her playing and her commitment to music that is not heard as often as it ought to be. Opening with an admirable account of the D major Prelude and Fugue from Bach's '48, she followed with a delightful performance of Haydn's 41st Sonata, in B flat major. In contrast, Liszt's Second Ballade ended the first half, a performance equally displaying Bing Bing's virtuosity and sensitivity... ...The second half began with a movement from Clementi's F sharp minor Sonata, preceding a superb account of Karol Szymanowski's Variations on a Polish Folk Theme Opus 10. Two Debussy Préludes from Book II ended her remarkable recital.
I look forward to hearing Bing Bing Li in major London venues very soon."
